The Computer Science Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for faculty positions in data science and machine learning at the rank of associate professor. The proposed starting date is December 2023 or soon thereafter.

The candidate

The qualified candidate is expected to hold a PhD in data science, computer science, applied mathematics, computational statistics, computational physics, or a closely related field.

The candidate is expected to collaborate with existing researchers in the department (see below) and to conduct research and research-based teaching in some of these areas: - Machine learning, neural networks - Network science, applications in computational social science - Computational neuroscience - Natural language processing - Fairness and accountability in data science and machine learning

The ideal candidate should document: - Publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer reviewed venues - Competences in developing and conducting teaching that is well received by students - A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which they have worked, for example participation in committees, etc.

In addition, candidates should be able to: - Attract external research funding - Supervise PhD students - Read/speak a Scandinavian language or be willing to learn Danish

Job description

The candidate is expected to conduct research and to collaborate with fellow faculty members in the Computer Science Department and to develop interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaborations when relevant. The candidate is expected to contribute to the IT University’s education programs, chiefly BSc and MSc Data Science and similar technical programs, both by giving courses and by supervising BSc and MSc theses. The candidate is expected to be affiliated with the national AI Pioneer Centre. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to engage with society through external collaboration, to participate in securing external funding, and to contribute to the IT University’s strategic goals.
