Senior Researcher in Biostatistics, Aarhus University Hospital

At Department of Clinical Epidemiology, a newly created full-time position as senior researcher in biostatistics is vacant as of September 1, 2012. The position includes responsibility for the day to day management of the department’s unit for biostatistics and data management.


The department

Department of Clinical Epidemiology is a research department conducting clinical epidemiological research. The department has 80 staff members, including 15 biostatisticians. A number of the world’s leading scientists within the field are affiliated with the department as guest professor or adjunct professor.


On an annual basis, the department publishes approx. 150 articles in leading international journals. We have approx. 40 PhD students and every year 7-8 PhD students finish their PhD. The department emphasizes international collaborations and has agreements with a number of universities abroad, including Stanford University, Harvard University, Boston University, University of North Carolina and Leiden University. Besides, the department participates in the Erasmus Mundus Doctoral and Master programmes.


The primary function of the department is to conduct research and develop methods within clinical epidemiology. In addition, the department manages several operational and advisory tasks for the regional and national health authorities. Depending on qualifications, our biostatisticians become affiliated with Aarhus University as associate professors or professor. 


Job description

We are looking to hire a flexible and committed colleague with a scientific background and research experience within applied biostatistics, mathematical modeling or the like. The employee will become part of the department management team and will in particular be responsible for:

  • Personnel and scientific management for the unit of biostatistics and data management
  • Coordinating the running of the unit of biostatistics and data management as well as organizing the daily workflow
  • Preparing budgets for commissioned tasks and monthly economy follow-up
  • Contributing to research within the unit and the department’s research programmes
  • Participating in the department’s international research collaborations


Furthermore, the employee should independently handle certain commissioned tasks as part of the daily work in the unit.



The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience with research management and personnel management as well as administration
  • Academic, scientific background, preferably with a PhD
  • Documented, high professional experience within the field
  • Experience as supervisor to PhD students, master students and research year students
  • Good interpersonal skills with respect for collaborators and the ability to further a stimulating positive work environment


Salary and conditions of employment

The senior researcher will be employed by Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Aarhus University Hospital. The offered salary will be in accordance with to the collective agreement between the employee’s organisation/trade union and the Central Denmark Region (Region Midtjylland).
