22. maj, 2020

Create a meaningful career at the Danish Agriculture & Food Council. Become part of a dedicated team of specialists who take responsibility and have influence every day. We represent a wide range of skills and work with everything from health to innovation, from sustainability to efficiency and from food security to animal welfare. Together we work for a bigger agenda.

Are you passionate about animal breeding and quantitative genetics? Are you interested in pig breeding? Are you keen to join a small but dedicated group of scientists working with quantitative genetics and pig breeding?

The position
The Department of Pig Breeding and Genetics at The Agriculture and Food Council, SEGES, Denmark invites applications for a creative, talented, and motivated Research Scientist with experience in animal breeding, quantitative genetics, and/or statistics. The Department has 30 employees. Six of these employees are scientists that develop and implement new methods in quantitative genetics to improve the performance of pigs at DanBred – one of the world’s largest pig-breeding systems. Much of the work of the scientists involves genetic and statistical analyses using phenotypic, pedigree, and genomic data.

You will help us to improve the performance of pigs at DanBred by contributing to both large research and small ad-hoc projects. These projects can range from developing and validating genetic-statistical methods to predict breeding values, using new information sources to increase prediction accuracy and control inbreeding, and designing breeding schemes that maximise genetic gain at acceptable rates of inbreeding.

About you
The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a PhD or MD in Animal Science, Quantitative Genetics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or similar field;
  • Have a strong understanding of animal breeding, statistical methods in quantitative genetics, and/or bioinformatic, mathematical, or analytical techniques;
  • Have strong communication skills – both verbal and written.

You are a person that is fascinated by quantitative genetics and animal breeding. You are a team player, but also self-motivated, curious, and can work independently to realise the best outcomes for DanBred. You understand the importance of collaboration with colleagues and external stakeholders. You are professional, take responsibility, and dare to “challenge status quo”.

We speak English, but ability to read and speak Danish is an advantage.

We offer
A permanent position at an attractive workplace with good colleagues. You will be part of a team of scientists, have the opportunity to define your own work program, collaborate with external scientists and stakeholders, and be encouraged to publish your work. Your colleagues will value the quality and benefits of your science. We prioritise good colleagueship and a healthy balance between work and recreation.

Your place of work will be at Skejby (Aarhus) or Axelborg (Copenhagen)
