1-2 Associate professors in epidemiology or biostatistics

The Research Unit of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Biodemography, Department of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for 1-2 fulltime positions as associate professors in epidemiology or biostatistics.

The Research Unit is one of eight research units at the Department of Public Health and is the home of the Danish Twin Registry and the Danish Aging Research Center. These registries comprise of comprehensive survey and register data as well as biological samples on Danish twins and sequential birth cohorts of the oldest-old which have been used in a broad range of epidemiological and biostatistical research.

Job description:

Each position involves at least three of the following four fields:

  1. Epidemiological study of human development and aging. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research initiatives in epidemiology with emphasis on explaining variations in health, aging and lifespan and how health and life span will develop in the years to come.
  2. Statistical methods for health science data. The successful candidate must have interest in collaborating in developing the optimal approach for analysis of data arising from observational twin- and family studies, clinical trials, omics and more. The position involves delivering biostatistical expertise and responsibility in such studies with contribution in design of experiment, methodology and analysis. 
  3. The department connects with international networks of expertise and the applicant will be expected to engage in new developments and bridging these with locally represented fields.
  4. Teaching, supervision and examination in epidemiology or statistics at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The applicant will work in a multi-disciplinary team of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, mathematicians, and biodemographers.

Required qualifications:

Major requirements:

  • A PhD degree in health science, statistics, or mathematics. Experience from being assistant professor, postdoc or equivalent.
    • Demonstrated solid knowledge and experience in use of statistical methodology within analysis of health data which has resulted in a documented track record in international peer reviewed publications.
  • A strong interest in pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in supervising students and researchers.

Other requirements:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent analytical abilities.
    • Fluent English language skills.
    • Capable of working independently as well as in multidisciplinary teams.
